We hit the Capital city, Wellington last weekend. Richard was there in the week for work and Mel joined him for the weekend. Itinerary included going to watch David Beckham and the LA Galaxy play the Phoenix (please see the post dedicated to the icon of soccer!).
But we managed to squeeze in time to visit the national Museum, TePapa. Picture below taken from the rooftop (level 6). Gosh, even with protective screens, it was windy!
And we did the Parliament tour - very good! Saw where all the politicians congregated for their usual squabbles. The interior is actually quite spectacular! Here's Mel in front of the Parliament House. Tour included a trip to the basement to see the special foundations that would help keep the buildings intact in the event of an earthquake.
Here's Mel in front of the Beehive... no politicians here today!
And we went up in the Cable Car - here's a pic of Mel at the Cable Car Museum, sitting on the original cable car before they had OSH regulations! Again, interesting to read about the history!
And here's Richard in front of the Botanical Garden - man, this city is so hilly! I don't think I can survive without a car here!
From the lookout on the top of the Cable Car stop... and now I really DO believe it when people tell me Wellington is the windy city!

And of course, the malls and cafes! And we found this fantastic Malaysia restaurant called Satay Kajang! Yes, the food was authentic! Richard had Fried Kuay Teow which he said was almost as good as the one he had in Penang (minus the prawns!). I had roti canai - 3 whole pieces with a bowl of curry for $6.50 (cheap by NZ standards, but I bet people in KL will be now gasping at that price!).
And the waterfront - Wellingtonians do like the outdoors! They had an outdoor basketball tournament on Saturday, by the waterfront. The weather was absolutely gorgeous!

Must say, we were sad to leave - it was a very enjoyable trip away. Next time we're down here, we might take the ferry and go over to Abel Tasman!
